Wattpad to Ream Migration: Bring Your Stories (and Your Readers) With You

Maximize your revenue and minimize stress and time spent in the process.
If you’ve been publishing on Wattpad and are thinking about moving your stories somewhere new, you’re not alone. Maybe you’re looking for more control over your author business. Maybe you want to earn directly from your readers. Maybe you’re tired of wondering what might change on a platform you don’t control.
Or maybe you simply want a place where your stories can live, your readers can become part of your community, and you get to decide what your author business looks like. That’s where Ream comes in.
Ream was built by authors, for authors, with the goal of giving indie writers a true home for their stories and their businesses. You can publish serial fiction, offer subscriptions, sell ebooks, share audiobooks and comics, build a community, and connect directly with your readers—all in one place.
Why move from Wattpad to Ream?
Wattpad is a great place to discover and share stories. But as your author career grows, you may find yourself wanting more than a place to post chapters. If you want to:
Earn money directly from your biggest fans
Build a business around your stories
Offer exclusive chapters and other perks to paying readers
Keep your ebooks, audiobooks, comics, and serial fiction together
Build a community that you can nurture directly
Have more control over your author brand and reader experience
Ream is designed around those needs. Instead of being just a place to post stories, Ream gives you a home for your content, your community, and your author business. And Ream takes just 10% from authors using the platform.
What happens to my Wattpad stories?
You don't have to start from scratch. Your stories belong to you, so you can bring your existing work to Ream and decide how you want to publish it.
You can use Ream to:
Publish serial fiction chapter by chapter
Schedule chapters for future release
Upload complete ebooks
Offer stories through free, follower, or paid tiers
Upload audiobooks
Upload comics
Sell eligible ebooks as one-time purchases
Create community posts, polls, and group chats around your stories
Think of your Ream page as your new author home base. You can even customize your author page with your own branding and colors, so your Ream page feels like your space.
Step 1: Create your Ream account
Start by creating your Ream account and setting up your author page. Your Author Dashboard is your command center. From there, you can manage your stories, readers, tiers, earnings, comments, analytics, and more. You'll also be able to create a personalized URL for your author page. Once your page is ready, it's time to start bringing over your stories.
Step 2: Decide what you want to migrate
You don't necessarily need to move everything at once. Take a look at your Wattpad library and decide what makes sense for your Ream launch.
Some suggested starting places:
Your current serial: If you're actively publishing a story on Wattpad, Ream can become its new home. You can publish chapters on a schedule and give readers a reason to follow along.
Your completed books: Turn completed stories into ebooks or offer them to subscribers as part of your Ream library.
Your bonus content: Have deleted scenes, alternate POVs, bonus chapters, short stories, or other goodies sitting around? Ream can be a great place to give those to your most dedicated readers.
Your backlist: If you have a collection of books, you can build out your Ream page over time instead of trying to move everything in one weekend.
You are in control of what you publish, when you publish it, and who gets access.
Step 3: Choose your Ream tiers
This is one of the biggest differences between simply posting stories and building an author business. On Ream, you can create different types of tiers, including free, follower, and paid tiers.
For example, you might have:
Free/Follower: Updates, announcements, and selected free stories.
Early Access: Read new chapters before everyone else.
Superfan: Get your full library, bonus content, and other exclusive perks.
Your tiers should fit your readers and your business. There isn't one right way to structure them. And you don't have to make everything exclusive to paying subscribers. You can mix free and paid content however you want.
Step 4: Tell your Wattpad readers
This can feel scary. You've spent years building a readership on Wattpad. What if they don't follow you? The key is to make the move easy for them.
Start talking about your Ream page before you move your publishing schedule. Tell your readers why you're making the move and what they'll get on Ream. You can share your Ream link in your Wattpad profile, story descriptions, author notes, social media, newsletter, and anywhere else you regularly connect with readers.
And don't assume everyone will move immediately. Some readers may follow you right away. Others may need a reminder or two. That's okay! Give them time to create their Ream account and get comfortable with the platform.
Step 5: Give readers a reason to follow you
Moving platforms is easier when readers understand what's waiting for them on the other side. Think about what you can offer on Ream that makes your biggest fans excited to join you. Here's a list of suggestions:
Early access to chapters
Exclusive stories
Bonus scenes
Behind-the-scenes updates
Polls where readers help you make decisions
A closer connection with you
Your entire backlist in one place
Audiobooks or comics
Special subscriber-only content
Ream's community features let you post updates, create polls, and interact with readers through comments. You're asking readers to follow you somewhere else, yes, but think of it as inviting them into your author community.
Step 6: Make Ream your multimedia home
Here's where things get really fun. Your stories don't have to live in just one format. Already have an audiobook? Put it on Ream. Want to turn a story into a comic? Ream supports comics, too. Have ebooks ready to go? Upload them.
Ream is designed to bring serial fiction, ebooks, audiobooks, and comics together in one author space. And readers can engage with your content instead of simply consuming it. They can follow authors, comment, participate in communities, and organize stories on their own shelves. Your readers get more ways to experience your work. You get one place to manage it. Everybody wins.
What about spicy stories?
We know this is an important question for many indie authors. Ream doesn't censor steamy stories simply because they're steamy. Your romance can be steamy. Your characters can be messy. Your stories can be written for adults. You should always follow Ream's content and safety policies, but you don't have to turn your writing into something it's not just to fit a platform's idea of what stories should look like.
Step 7: Explore your new author toolkit
Once you've made the move, take some time to explore everything Ream has to offer.
Your Author Dashboard gives you access to tools for publishing, community building, marketing, analytics, and managing your business.
Here's a list of just some of the tools available to you:
Story Pulse: Learn more about how readers interact with your stories.
Member Analytics to understand your followers and subscribers
Heatmaps to see where readers start and stop reading.
Shelves to organize and showcase books.
Coupon codes to help promote your books and subscriptions.
Ream Raids and Author Swaps to connect with other authors and reach new readers.
Ream Academy and Creator Central for education and resources.
You don't have to learn all of this on day one. Start with your story. Then your readers. Then build from there.
Ready to make the move?
Moving your author business can feel like a huge project. It doesn't have to be! Start with one story and one post. You can build your Ream page over time and bring more of your catalog over when you're ready. The important thing is that you're building something that belongs to you.
Ream's mission is to help authors create a home for their content, build communities around their work, and connect directly with the readers who love their stories. No mega-corporation telling you what your author business has to look like.
Just you, your stories, and your readers.
Welcome to Ream. We're so happy you're here.
